Syllabus - Basic Korean for Second Generation

Welcome to (단체이름)'s Korean class 

This class is elementary Korean course for second generation Korean have no or limited knowledge in Korean.The course goal is to provide a basic foundation that will enable students to acquire and develop language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Korean. Throughout the process of learning these skills, emphasis will be on the student's ability to perform in real-life situations through task-based practice.

Student Learning Outcomes 

1. Understand Romaja system. 

2. Understand Hangul system. 

3. Memorize simple basic sentences and word (Time, Countries, Colors, Greetings)

4. Understand Korean vocabulary system. (Pure-origin, Chinese Origin, Other origin, Foreign language)

5. Understand how Korean culture applied in Korean language use. 

6. Understand structure of simple sentences

7. Understand simple grammar and Idioms 

8. Construct cultural homogeneity with first-generation Korean.  

Curriculem (First 10 weeks) 

week 1 (Introduction of Romaja System)  한국어 로마자 표기법에 대하여 알아봅시다.  Book - Chek Pencil- YeonPil  Desk - ChekSang 학용품, 달(월), 기수, 서수, 고유숫자, 한문숫자, 색에 대하여 배웁니다.

Week 2-4 (Introductuon of Hangul System) 한국어의 한글 표기법에 대하여 알아봅시다.  Book- 책 Pencil - 연필 Desk- 책상 색, 나라,언어, 음식과 같은 기본적인 단어들이 교부됩니다.

Week 5 (Introduction of Component of Korean Vocabulary)  이 과에서는 한국어 단어가 어느 종류들로 이루어져 있는지 배웁니다. 왜래어, 외국어, 한자어, 고유어의 차이를 배웁니다.  한글로 계속 리뷰를 하게 됩니다. 해당 주는 단어보다는 한국어의 시스템을 이해하고 암기하게 됩니다.

Week 6 (Introduction of Republic of Korea) 대한민국에 대해서 배웁니다.  국가 상징, 국화, 지리(주요도시/행정구역), 국가, 국기에 대한 건조한 설명이 있습니다. 이후에는 한글 표기법에 대한 리뷰를 하게 됩니다.

Week 7 (Introduction of Korean Reading) 사이시옷과 한글을 읽는 방법을 간단하게 소개합니다. 받침과 철자법에 대한 설명이 있습니다.  일반적인 생활 고유단어들이 교부됩니다.

Week 8 (Introduction of Korean writing) 원고지를 바탕으로 한글을 어떻게 쓰는지 배웁니다. 한글 맟춤법에 대한 설명이 주가 됩니다.  생활 고유단어들이 교부됩니다.

Week 9-10 (Review)  간단한 복습을 합니다. 철자법과 맟춤법 중심으로 교습하며, 혹시 출석하지 못한 아이나 진도를 따라오지 못하는 학생의 경우 복습을 중심으로, 만약 진도를 잘 따라온 학생이라면 간단한 책을 읽게 됩니다.

Week 11-16 (see below) 이 시기부터는 간단한 문법과 읽기가 있습니다. 훈련과 받아쓰기를 기초로 하여 간단한 조사, 부사, 형용사등을 중심으로 배웁니다.

Curriculem (After 10 weeks common course) 

This class emphasize importance of the reading and writing. Korean has very complex sentence structure, so I think it's almost impossible to learn Korean via Grammar books. Therefore, Grammar will be supplemental resources. Since you are a Second Generation, this class will emphasize importance of connecting sentences, language usage and cultures. 

This class has four following parts: 

1. Vocab - Learn basic pure Korean verbs.

 

2. Grammar - Components of Simple sentences.

제가 젓가락으로 밥을 먹습니다.  

3. Reading-

Common: 현대소설 - 무지개를 찾아서 (Looking for Rainbow) 

Reading assessments are almost always homework.  If your level is higher than others, Another reading assessments will be assigned. It's up to your Korean level. 

  

4. Writing - make a 70 sentences per week based on given Grammar-Vocab bank. 

원고지 쓰기 (Genkoshi,Manuscript paper)

받아쓰기(Dictation)
